Abstract

Abstract

Violence against women has become a significant problem area emerging in various geographies, threatening the welfare of communities, and requiring protective-preventive, therapeutic, and rehabilitative interventions. It can manifest itself as physical, psychological, sexual, economic, and cyber violence in interaction with various environmental factors. Yet, community-based practices to prevent or alleviate violence against women are hopefully becoming apparent worldwide. Such interventions keep a substantial place in changing and transforming norms and daily practices paving the way for violence against women. Community-based interventions can also contribute to women’s empowerment and community well-being. In this sense, the present research addresses community-based interventions in the prevention-reduction of violence against women and their links with social work as a discipline and profession. Within the framework of relevant literature, the study discusses violence against women and its types, environmental factors leading such violence to emerge, relationships between community-based interventions and social work, community mobilization, and microfinance practices. Overall, designing and implementing community-based intervention programs to prevent violence against women is likely to bring substantial contributions to the well-being of women, children, families, and communities.
