Abstract

Abstract

This study compares how attitudes towards people with disabilities differ between Turkish and Somalian cultures. It also investigates whether variables such as gender, age, educational levels, contacts, and countries impact individuals' attitudes towards people with disabilities. The aim of this study was to critically analyse people’s attitudes towards people with disability living in Turkey or Somalia. This research consisted of 200 participants of mixed gender and age. Multidimensional Attitudes Scale Toward Persons with Disabilities (MAS) was used to measure participant's attitudes towards disabled individuals. One-way MANOVA and correlation analysis and factorial MANOVA methods were used to investigate group differences. Results showed that educational level only has a significant effect on cognitive, reporting that the low educated participants showed more negative cognitive than high educated participants. It was also established that there is no significant difference in terms of the effects of gender on three MAS factors.
