Abstract
Bu makalede, Robert de Beaugrande ve Benjamin Colby'nin hikaye anlatım kurallarıyla ilgili olarak oluşturdukları şema yapısını Chabon'un Gentilmen of the Road adlı kısa romanındaki anlatısına uyarlanmasına çalışılmıştır. Beaugrande ve Colby'nin şemasının bu romana göre uyarlanması, Chabon'un anlatısının evrensel olarak yapılandırılmış olmasına rağmen, içinde mevcut olan yapısal karmaşıklıklar içerdiğini ve bu nedenle yazarın, efsanevi ve kılıçlı Yahudi karakterler ve Yahudilerin hüküm sürdüğü bir Krallık yaratarak en büyük Yahudi fantezisini yerine getirirken okuyucuyu sırlar ve sürprizlerle şaşırtabildiğini ortaya çıkarmaktadır. Yazar evrensel bir yapıya sahip, ancak yenilikçi yollarla inşa ettiği geleneksel bir masala okuyucunun beklentilerini ihlal eder. Romandaki gerilimin, eserin biçiminin ve metnin diğer estetik niteliklerinin katkısı ile eserin biçimci okumasını kolaylaştıran içeriği ile uyumlu, iyi yapılandırılmış bir roman ortaya konmuştur.

Abstract
In the present paper, it is attempted to adapt the schema structure created by Robert de Beaugrande and Benjamin Colby regarding story telling rules to Chabon’s narrative in the short novel of Gentlemen of the Road. Adapting Beaugrande and Colby’s scheme to this novel reveals that though Chabon’s narrative has globally structured, it contains inherent structural complexities and, thus, the author is able to astonish the reader with secrets and surprises while fulfilling the greatest fantasy of Jews by creating legendary Jewish characters with swords and a Kingdom ruled by Jews. The author violates reader’s expectations by constructing a traditional tale with a universal structure but in innovative ways. The contribution of the tension of the novel, the form of the work and other aesthetic qualities of the text has been produced a well-built novel coherent with its content which makes the formalist reading of the work convenient.
