Abstract
Giysiler bir dönemin, bir ülkenin, bir topluluğun veya bir kişinin özelliklerini gösteren ürünlerdir. Sabır ve hünerle meydana getirilen giysiler; Anadolu insanının, ruhunun inceliklerini, hayat anlayışını, geleneğini-göreneğini daha birçok duygularını yansıtmaktadır. Bu duygular bazen çizgiyle, bazen renkle, bazen de motiflerde sembolik bir dille anlatılmaktadır. Bu araştırmada, yılan motifli Kütahya kadın cepkenlerinin motif, desen ve kompozisyon özellikleri incelenmiştir. Bu kapsamda Kütahya ilinin tarihi gelişimi, coğrafi ve sosyal konumu, ekonomik, eğitim ve kültür durumları, Kütahya kadın cepkenleri ve motiflerin sembolik anlamları hakkında kaynak araştırmaları yapılmıştır. Ayrıca yılan motifli Kütahya kadın cepkenleri araştırılmış, giysi sahiplerinin izniyle giysilerin fotoğrafları çekilerek; giysilerin desenleri vektörel olarak çizilmiştir. Dört adet cepken’in renk, süsleme özellikleri, motif, desen, kompozisyon ve biçim özellikleri belirlenmiştir. Araştırmanın evrenini Kütahya, örneklemini ise Kütahya ilinden bulunan dört adet cepken giysi oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada elde edilen sonuçlara dayalı olarak öneriler geliştirilmiştir.

Abstract
Garments are products that show the characteristics of an era, a country, a community, or a person. The garments, created with patience and skill, reflect the intricacies of the Anatolian people, their spirit, their understanding of life, their traditions. These feelings are sometimes described by line, sometimes by color, sometimes by symbolic language in motifs. In this study, motif, pattern and composition characteristics of Kütahya female cepkens with snake motif were examined. In this context, the historical development of the province of Kütahya, geographical and social position, economic, educational and cultural situations, Kütahya women's cepkens and symbolic meanings of motifs were investigated. In addition, Kütahya women's cepkens with snake motifs were investigated, photographs of the clothes were taken with the permission of the owners of the clothes; the patterns of the clothes were drawn vectorially. Four cepkens’ colour, ornamentation, motif, pattern, composition and form characteristics were determined. The universe of the research consists of Kütahya and the sample consists of four cepken garments found from the province of Kütahya.Recommendations have been developed based on the results optanied in the research.
