DRAMATURGY OF FILM SOUND: CONCEPTS, SAMPLES, ANALYZES

The concept of film sound dramaturgy can, through dramatic interaction, be defined as the design of sound universe in a semantic context. In cinematography while the items that make up auditory components are usually used in the context of story complement, in qualified films mostly the ways loaded with dramatic functions are looked for. This tendency in contemporary films is an ever thriving fact. This study was set up on how the sound design in cinematographic narrative, in the sense of dramaturgy, is constructed While writing a scenario for a film, a text dramaturgy is built up in a traditional sense. When the director, after translating this dramaturgy into a visual expression, starts filming, a transformation into a different dramaturgy forms the topic. One of the elements constituting transformation is the sound design. On the axis of sound design, topic, narrative style, narrative configuration contain a dramaturgy identified by the interactions which are interwoven by images. Sound dramaturgy, basically, means that the director, by preserving the discursive identity of the narrative, uses the sound design in a content of transforming/strengthening the film text. The focal/principal problematic of this study, provided that the textual dramaturgy is kept aside, is about how and to what degree the concept of dramaturgy works on the formation of the sound design. After giving some basic information, analysis carried out through two films and primarily, an answer was searched for the question of whether there is an interaction between narrative modality and sound dramaturgy. The other question to be answered was, through the variables such as textual dramaturgy, visual and acoustic structuring, by what dynamics the formations in film sound design are determined. Under the scope of this study, the phonic texts are mainly studied by analytic-hermeneutic analysis.

The Armenian question, which was brought to the international platform with Ayastefanos and Berlin Treaties, became one of the most fundamental issues that the Ottoman Empire was dealing with since that time. An independent Armenia was also supported by European Great Powers, especially Russia. The basic strategy of the Armenians, who took action with the guidance of the Hinchak and Dashnak organizations, was to revolt all over the country and allow the western states to interfere in the events. In this context, after 1890, Armenian rebellions were seen in many provinces of the Ottoman country. Especially one of the revolutions that gained momentum in 1895 took place in Trabzon. The rebellion in Trabzon was brought up to the agenda of the European press because of being a port city as well; Trabzon was in constant contact with the outside world.
Ottoman Empire achieved a strong state organisation by making a continous progress while it was turning from a tribe to a principality, a principality to a state, and a state to an Empire. However, the Empire began losing its state power due to some internal and external issues that arose at the end of the 18th century and then it entered into a collapse period. Ascending the throne on 28 March 1780, Sultan Selim III (1789-1807) who was the son of the Sultan Mustafa III (1857-1774) encouraged some reforms in order to remove troubles from the Ottoman Empire and to enable the Empire to regain its previous strength. In connection, Selim III sent Ebubekir Ratıp Efendi, who was one of the most important statesmen of his reign to Europe in 1791 by assigning him to Vienna Embassy Selim III also ordered him to gather information about military, administrative and financial organisations there. In the light of this information, Selim III, who believed that Ottoman Empire must be renewed in every field about governmental issues supported radical innovations in military, administrative, social, economic, educational, diplomatic fields. In doing so, Selim III attached first to the importance of the military issues and established a modernised Ottoman army under the name of Nizam-i Cedid. Although the Ottoman Empire made a progress in above mentioned reforms that were realized for the Ottoman society in every field, troubles in administrative and social fields could not be completely resolved. New taxes collected from the public for Irad-i Cedid treasury which was established to meet expenses of the army caused economical problems among the society. Affected from these economical problems, the public reacted to the reformations and did not support them. As Sultan III was not welcomed by his own society about these reforms, he had to abdicate the throne on May, 1807 and later he was assasinated. In this study, we tried to detect in which fields these reformations were realized that were actually intended by Sultan Selim III to be able to catch European standards.

Societies transfer their cultures that incorporate all their life experiences such as customs, traditions, etc. from one generation to another through education. People who form the society are raised through education. Education policies are determined by the governments. The traits of society, therefore, the traits of persons vary from period to period. The needs of changing epoch also differ. The education must keep pace with the change in order to meet the needs of traits of the person desired to be raised. Therefore changes are carried out in educational programs in some specific periods. The education program developed recently in our country embraces fundamental changes. The program has been redesigned from the beginning including its philosophy and tested as a pilot program in draft form in 2004 and has been applied throughout the country. The most significant change in the Turkish program, undoubtedly, is the utilization of the Sound Based Sentence Method in the teaching reading and writing in the first grade of elementary school instead of Sentence Method.
In terms of the sufi system, two basic essays are distinguished as Sufism, amelî (worship) sufism and ilmî (doctrine) sufism. Sufism has emerged as a form of worship and zuhd, and in this respect it is a practical sufism (mysticism). The theoretical and scientific direction of sufism emerged later. It is the period of zuhd which emerges as the life of worship and zuhd. The emergence of the theoretical and scientific direction through the process of science is referred to as the Sufism period. In the process of becoming mystic science, critics of Mysticism in the 3rd and 4th centuries have important influences. One of the points of criticism is the debate on the source and method of knowledge. Other points of criticism are the irrational words of some Sufis. Most importantly, it is the incarnation and irresponsible attitudes of profane movements. These attitudes have caused the Sufis to be accused of profane and blasphemy. In the face of criticism and accusations, the Sufis had to defend themselves and wrote works for this purpose.

Teaching foreign language learners the ability to express themselves effici-ently (technically termed as “the fourth skill”) has been one of the greatest challenges among educators both in Turkey and abroad. This task seems to be an unsurmountable problem to some in the foreign language teaching field. Linguists have brought forward many theories, methods, approaches and techniques so far to remedy the difficulty, but little progress has been achie-ved. Because those involved have not chosen to follow the right path toward their planned target and stick to it until their goal is reached. Unless that is do-ne, much effort and time remain wasted which otherwise could have been used very productively. Intelligible pronunciation is a key factor in communi-cative competence, being one of the essential criteria to pass a prestigious and rigorous CEF or CEFR (The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) test ranging from A1 to C2 levels. This article tries to explain the reasons behind the failure of “phonological competence acquisition” problem and proposes a unique approach -- to teach and apply the principles of seg-mental and suprasegmental phonology by reading IPA transcription in order to produce an acceptable articulation in the target language.

All kinds of the chaos actions that were made by Armenian Committees were supported by all of the missionaries in Ottoman Empire. This article argues that Muhammad Alexander Russell Webb (1846-1916) who was born in Hudson, New York, a white Muslim convert who challenged the prevailing anti-Islamic sentiments of his time and wrote two booklets about the Armenian and Turkish conflicts from a Muslim point of view in 1895. Generally, female-male (husband-wife) figures or female-child figures in binary compositions, female-male-child figures in triple compositions are depicted. These steles were created in the direction of the wishes of a propertied class which is scarcely encountered in the examples in Asia Minor. Besides these features, in Kahramanmaraş funerary steles, ordinary people and their works are depicted rather than King or Gods. The funerary steles found in Kahramanmaraş and around the city has a crucial importance for indicating the cultures influencing the region.
