The paper will focus on the relationship between contemporary Turkish art and traditional concepts in last thirty years. It will seek to show how contemporary artists employ national history and aesthetic in their construction of post-modernism. While contemporary art is focusing on the present and also the past of the modern art, some works of contemporary art are bringing together a selection of objects, such as calligraphies, miniatures, stained glass, textiles, tombaks and carpets in the exhibition space. In addition, new forms in contemporary Turkish art such as installation, video art and photography encouraged people to establish visual and conceptual relationships between works of art as well as between history and culture. As a case study, curated by Istanbul Modern’s chief Curator Levent Çalıkoğlu, “From Traditional to Contemporary: Cultural Memory in Modern Turkish Art” opened at Istanbul Modern in February 2010 will be investigated in the light of the tradit

The article is set out to examine the content and the reasons of observable changes in Turkey in regard of the secularization of the practicing Muslims within the realms of politics, political economy, public codes, ethical and legal factors. It is of significance since the literature is mainly focused upon the de-secularization of Turkish political system in recent years and this process was named as “Malaysianisation”. Among these debates, secularization of the practicing Muslim has emerged on the stage that is just in contrast to what has been imagined as an expected change. The change in the extent / dimension / perception of piety (in the concept of secularization of the practicing Muslims) can be observed under the embracing framework and sometimes overlapping umbrella of globalization and capitalism whose effects can be demonstrated in the domains of daily life practices, finance and entrepreneurship, commodification (fashion), political agendas of Islamist parties, pious people

One of the works concerning the Baghdad campaign of Murat IV is Pesendîde-nâme that was written by a XVII. century poet, Tulû’î. The work, the only copy of which is kept in French National Library is consisted of 89 couplets and was written in Qasida form. The wide influence of the popular trend of the time, Sebk-i Hindî, can be tracked in the Qasida which is formed of unusual harmonisations and Persian combinations. In this record which reflects the Ottoman way of war in XVII. century, the poet appeals to a striking, interesting and different manner of telling. This fact draws the attention especially for the expressions of the war scenes. In our study, the mentioned work is to be analyzed and presented as the transcription of the text is put forward for researchers.

In this regard the main task of linguists is to work on ethnic, cultural and language research and to document them for future generations. Changes in social conditions of life are sure to specify the state of dialects. Original lexical minimum is no longer in use due to the shift of dialects or influence of other languages. Otemish- 5000-year-old village-is used to be the capital of Otemish Sultanate. Inhabitants of Otemish which are known for the fearless fight against Nader Shah and Peter the Great are the speakers of the most ancient dialect of Kumyk language. What mainly brings both poets together is their leading position in modern poetry by radical changes both in style and content as well as the humane aspect of their verses, which “touches the man”. Using free verse and unconventional poetic structures, they radically made changes in structure. The purpose of this paper is to explore some of the similarities between Nazım Hikmet and Walt Whitman in the modernization of poetry with a revolutionary movement both in content and style.

In his play, Pygmalion, Bernard Shaw explores the very facts about the constructive and destructive sides of male power and dominancy over the re-creation of a female. The title of the play calls for an understanding of Ovid’s mythological story and its subliminal messages which also provide a basis for Shaw’s play. In Ovid’s story, Pygmalion, a male sculptor, is granted the power to create a female paragon out of an ivory statue. As a woman hater, Pygmalion’s creation embodies all the traits of a male perspective that echoes itself in the making of a creature embellished with the choices of a male taste. Similarly, in Shaw’s Pygmalion, Eliza is molded with the teachings of her male creator’s profession, which is phonetics. However, unlike a lifeless statue, Eliza needs to improve some other skills in order to exist in a social class she is not born into. In this juncture, this paper aims at defining the roles of male characters in Eliza’s transformation.
