Abstract

Müferrih-i yâkûtlarla ilgili çeşitli özellikler ve kullanımlar divanlara aksetmiştir.

Abstract

It is not possible to think of the literature of a nation independently of the society from which it arose. The literature practiced in the Ottoman Empire, which ruled for approximately six hundred years, cannot be exempted of this, either. This matter was revealed with studies conducted on divan poetry, and research within this context is still ongoing. The present study can be counted among those, as well. The word “müferrih” refers to “refreshing, balmy” and “refreshing medicine”. Ottoman medicine books categorized this healing medicine into two, as those with and without the added content of ruby. Again, in the medicine books of the period, the content, recipe and healing properties of müferrih-i yâkût are mentioned. Divan poets were also interested in this type of medicine used in Ottoman medicine and society. Various features and uses regarding müferrih-i yâkût were reflected on divans. Before discussing the types of müferrih-i yâkût in the divans, information was provided on ruby and müferrih, and the outstanding uses of the poets regarding this concept were examined under headings. The present study reveals the place of a medicine/sherbet that was of importance in Ottoman medicine and society within the aesthetics of divan poetry. The study also aims to contribute to future studies in the fields of history, sociology and medicine.
