Abstract
Ölüm ve ölüm düşüncesi, kaçınılmaz bir gerçeklik olması nedeniyle insan zihnini sürekli meşgul eder. İnsanoğlu, bilinmezliklerle dolu olan ölüm olgusunu bazen bir yok oluş şeklinde algılarken bazen de yeni ve sonsuz bir yaşamın başlangıcı olarak kabullenir. Anlamı kişiden kişiye, kültürden kültüre farklılık arz eden ölüm; mutlak bir yazgı olması bakımından sanatın ve edebiyatın en önemli temalarından biridir. Evrensel bir tema olan ölüm, II. Yeni şiirinin öncü isimlerinden Cemal Süreya’nın şiirlerinde de yer bulur; ancak Cemal Süreya için ölüm; kaçınılması gereken bir olgu, tedirginlik uyandıran bir sondur. Bu nedenle Süreya, ölümü metafizik bir anlayışla ele almaz. Kimi şiirlerinde ölümü bireysel, toplumsal ya da evrensel boyutuyla değerlendirirken kimi şiirlerinde ise ironik bir yaklaşımla irdeler. Hayattan zevk alan şair, ölümü işlerken aslında yaşamın güzelliklerine olan bağlılığını da ifade eder.

Abstract
Death and the thought of death continuously occupy the human mind since they are unavoidable phenomena. While human beings sometimes perceive death, which is full of obscurity, in the form of annihilation; they sometimes accept it as a start of a new and eternal life. Death, whose meaning changes from person to person and from culture to culture, is one of the most important themes of art and literature since it is an absolute destiny. As an universal theme, death also emerges within the poems of Cemal Süreya who is one of the pioneer figures of the Second New Movement; but death is a phenomenon which should be avoided and which creates uneasiness for him. Thus Süreya doesn’t handle the theme of death with a metaphysical approach. In some of his poems, he evaluates death with its personal, social and universal dimensions while in others he takes it ironically. As a matter of the fact when he treats the theme of death, he also emphasizes his conduct of life.
