Abstract
This research aims to reveal the place and importance of Ferdinando Carulli (1770-1841), an Italian guitarist, composer, publisher and educator who made significant technical and musical contributions to the classical guitar training in the 19th century. This study is a qualitative research using the survey model. Within the scope of the research, Carulli's life and works were investigated through literature research, and his method books, etudes, solo works, concertos and chamber music works for the guitar were scanned. A total of 367 works of Carulli were found. Of these works, 158 are for solo guitar, 205 are chamber music and 4 are in the concerto form. In addition, Carulli's pedagogical works consisting of 2 basic method books and 112 etudes written for guitar education were identified. Carulli, an important figure of the Romantic Period, pioneered the spread of the guitar throughout Europe, conducted research on guitar making and contributed to the development of a ten-string guitar called Decarode in line with his ideas. As a result of the study, the importance of Carulli in the history of the classical guitar was revealed more clearly, and his contributions to the development and popularisation of guitar education and his lasting effects in the field of music were emphasised. In this context, the study is an important source for a better understanding of Carulli's place in the music world.
