Abstract
Bilim, sanat ve felsefe alanındaki gelişme değişmelerin sosyal yapıyı etkilediği bilinmektedir. Sosyal yapıdaki değişmeler de bir süre sonra edebiyat alanında kendisini hissettirmektedir. Osmanlı’da XIX. yüzyıl ortalarına kadar bilim, teknoloji ve sanat alanında toplumu derinden sarsacak bir değişiklikten bahsetmek zordur. Batının etkisiyle Osmanlı aydınlarında görülen değişiklikler, Tanzimat’la birlikte edebiyat alanında kendisini gösterdi. Örneklerine Batıda rastlanan ve o zamana kadar Osmanlı aydınının aşina olmadığı edebî şekil ve türler denenmeye başlandı. Türk edebiyatı bu tarihten itibaren üzerinde yükseldiği köklerinden uzaklaşarak Batı istikametine meyletmeye başladı. XX. yüzyıla gelindiğinde klâsik Türk edebiyatı dönemine ait birikimin anlaşılamaması gibi bir sorun ortaya çıktı. Bu durum, ardından klâsik Türk edebiyatını anlama çabalarını da beraberinde getirdi.

Abstract
Development in the field of science, art and philosophy is known to affect social structure. Changes in social structure, on the other hand, make themselves felt in the field of literature after a while. It is hardly ever possible to talk about a profound change in science, technology and art until the mid-way through the 19th Century in Ottoman. The changes seen in Ottoman intellectuals by the influence of the West showed themselves in the field of literature together with Tanzimat. Examples of literary forms and genres that were encountered in the West and that the Ottoman intellectuals were not familiar with until then, started to be tried. From this date onwards, Turkish literature moved away from its roots and started to orient itself towards the West. A problem that the accumulation of classical Turkish literature period couldn’t be understood appeared in the 20th Century. This situation brought about the efforts to understand classical Turkish literature.
