Abstract
Sihirbaz George Melies’in filmini çekerken kamerasının sıkışması ve kamerasını tekrar oynattıktan sonra karşılaştığı manzara, özel ve görsel efektlerin miladı olarak tanımlanabilir. Kamerası sıkışan Melies, Paris’te çektiği filmi tekrar oynattığında otobüsün cenaze arabasına, bir adamın da bayana dönüştüğünü izlemlemiştir. Bu durum Melies’in filmlerinde efekt serüvenini de başlatmasında etkili olmuş, tesadüfen bulduğu bu tekniği de birçok filminde kullanmıştır. Teknolojik gelişmelerle ihtiyaçlara göre şekillenen efekt uygulamaları, sinemanın anlatımı konusunda tahmin edilemeyen boyutlara ulaşmıştır. Senaryo bir film için ne kadar önemliyse, filmde kullanılan efektler de filmin anlatımını güçlendirmede o kadar önemlidir. Senaryo nasıl bir oyuncuyla bütünleşik şekilde filmde yaşam buluyorsa, filmde kullanılan efektler de filmin en önemli parçalarındandır. Günümüzde efektsiz bir film düşünülemez hale gelmiştir. Bu bağlamda sinemada hayati öneme sahip bu efektlerin, tanım ve uygulama alanlarıyla ne olduğu hakkında bilgi verilmiş, literatürde görülen her iki kavramın tek isimde kullanılmasının hatalı olduğu gerek yapılan tanım ve uygulamalarla, gerekse Dünya Sinemasında özel ve görsel efekt alanında çalışma yapan sanatçıların tanımlarıyla da iki alanın da farklı uygulamalar olduğu ispatlanmaya çalışılmıştır.

If the script finds life in a movie integrated with a player, the effects used in the film are also the most important parts of Filmin. Nowadays a film without effect becomes unthinkable.
