Abstract

Zeybek is a folk dance and music type associated with people qualified as efe in the Aegean and Western Mediterranean regions. Zeybek melody has a unique modus. The term “modus” is used for instruments and refers to a local style of playing. Most of the zeybek melodies in TRT Turkish folk music repertoire had been compiled from different regions, only the voices indicated by the unit value had been expressed in a clear and plain manner. And rhythmic motifs and shape of the plectrum which are forming the zeybek modus had not been specified. It is thought that, by organizing the melodies to show their modus and showing their strokes to the plectrum, the expressive power of the performers will increase and a more fluent working styles will be gained in the application of the technique to the local modus. In this study, based on the motifs that express the strokes corresponding to the unit values in the notes of the zeybek melody of three different regions selected from the TRT Turkish folk music repertoire, and plectrum strokes which are showing Zeybek modus have been applied in distorted order and notation in Bağlama instrument.
