Abstract

Tanbûri Cemil Bey, one of the leading names in Turkish music instrument performance,he made important contributions to Turkish Music with both his compositions and the performance of improvization. He has become an ecole both in his own period and in the periods after his own, especially his improvization impressed everyone in terms of technical and maqam. This research was made in order to reveal the similarities and differences between the classical kemanche improvization performance in the Pesendide makam of Tanbûri Cemil Bey and the Arel theory used nowadays.The Improvization performance has been reached with archive scanning and noteted. Then it was examined in terms of maqam pattern.Information about the Pesendide maqam is taken from Arel's Turkish Music Theory Lessons and comparative analysis is done with Tanbûri Cemil Bey’s improvization. As a result, it was seen there were similarities and differences between Arel’s definition of Pesendide maqam and Tanbûri Cemil Bey’s improvization performance and as a result of comparisons these similarities and differences are included.
