It can be said that this transfer is important for the continuity of the cultural and moral values of societies. Therefore, the education that will be given in schools must include our values. In recent years, the subject of “values education” is frequently mentioned in education. Social studies and Turkish courses are based on certain values. It was determined that values education department was included in the explanations of the last Turkish Education Program in force. It is stated that these values, which form the basis of Turkish course, will be processed through texts in textbooks. Textbooks and texts, which are the main materials for Turkish lessons, are the most important source of Turkish lessons. Therefore, attention should be paid to the subject and genre elements in text selections. The mentioned values should be selected from the types of texts that can convey cultural elements. It can be said that fairy tales are an important tool for gaining affective skills and values to be given to students. Fairy tales bear traces of the culture in which they exist as a species and can more easily enter the world of children. Based on this idea, the aim of this study is to examine the values that the tales in the textbooks taught in schools convey to the students. The tales in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade Turkish textbooks in 2018-2019 academic year were examined according to V. Propp's structural analysis theory. The texts of the fairy tale type in the books were determined and their functions and formulas were revealed. Thus, what functions the fairy tales given to students correspond to basically will be determined, and the situation of overlap with the values given in the curriculum will be examined.},author={Şenay YILDIRIM},year={2020},journal={The Journal of Academic Social Science}}
