Abstract

Social media is a platform that enables interaction between people and influences the life style of today's people. Perfectionism is defined as the obligation of an individual to be successful in everything and feeling bad when he / she cannot get approval from others. Social media can also lead to the emergence of perfectionist individuals who strive to obtain the approval of other people and set high standards. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between high school students' perfectionism characteristics and social media usage attitudes. The research group of the study consists of 589 students from 9th, 10th and 11th grade studying in 4 secondary schools in Şişli district of İstanbul. In data collecting Personal Information Form, Pozitive and Negative Perfectionism Scale and Social Media Attitude Scale were used. IBM SPSS 25 was used to analyze the data received from the research groups. After the analysis, it was concluded that there is a significant relationship between the dependent variable and Pozitive and Negative Perfectionism subscale scores. it was found that female students had more positive attitudes towards social media than male students. In addition, as a result of the research, some of the information obtained from the personal information form of the participants and the social media usage attitudes were obtained.
