Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between pre-service teachers 'perceptions of competence of pre-service education, their desires for professional orientation and career development and their personal-professional competencies, and the relationship between pre-service teachers' perceptions about the adequacy of pre-service education and intermediary role of their desire for professional orientation and career development. This research was conducted with cross-sectional-relational screening model. The study group is composed of 154 teacher candidates in total, who were studying in the senior year at the faculty of education in a university in the Western Black Sea Region in Fall term in the 2019-2020 academic year. Personal information tool, “Teacher Perception Scale Regarding the Adequacy of Pre-Service Education”, “Professional Orientation and Career Development Scale” and “Personal-Professional Competencies Perception Scale for Teacher Candidates” were used as the data collection tool. Partial least squares path analysis (PLS-SEM) was used to analyze the research model. As a result of the analyzes, the pre-service teachers' perceptions about the adequacy of the education they received were found to be good; It was also observed that their perceptions of professional orientation and career development desires and personal-professional competencies were very high. In addition, it has been determined that the perceptions of the teacher candidates about the adequacy of pre-service education affect their personal-professional competencies and their desire for professional orientation and career development, that the desires of professional orientation and career development also affect personal-professional competencies. At the same time, it has been seen that the pre-service teachers' perceptions about the adequacy of pre-service education indirectly affect their personal-professional competencies through professional orientation and career development desires.
