Abstract

In this study it is aimed to reveal the effects of energy projects on the production and development of sector after evaluating the establishment, development, and current status of steel pipe industry in our country. Steel pipe industry is one of the sub-sectors within context of iron and non-ferrous metals industry being one of the sub-sectors of main metal industry. Steel pipe production has first started at the factory being established with the partnership of Sumerbank with German Mannesmann company in Izmit in 1957 and other Turkish investors have followed this development starting from year 1958 on. Sector has realized its first attempt in the first half of 1980s. At the beginning of 2000s with the investments being made in the sector and with the foreign capital inflows, sector has entered its second comprehensive development process. Steel pipe industry has reached the capacity and competency to realize the production of all types of steel pipes with its production capacity and technological infrastructure. According to the production figures of year 2018, nearly 82,5 % of steel pipes being produced in our country are composed of small and medium diameter pipes and the remaining part is composed of big diameter pipes. Transformation of Turkey into an energy corridor and therminal between energy production and consumption areas has positive influence on the development of steel pipe industry. When steel pipe export and import balance is considered, Turkey is a net exporting company. In the research case study method as being among qualitative research methods, has been used.
