Abstract

The Mediterranean is a region which has taken an important role in development of civilizations established around due to its climatic and geographic features located in the middle of Europe, Asia and Africa continents. The civilizations here have traded many products. Ex-libris are a small unique figures which introduce the owner of book. Ex-libris, which have the Word meaning of "from ...'s library" or "belonging to ...'s library", bring the cultural features of the era they were created to today as they have a long history. It is a bridge between artist, designer, art-lover and collector. Due to their distinctness, those small art Works continue to attract attention today just like in the past, and used as an important exchange material among artists-collectors. This study will reveal the ex-libris reflection of ship visuals which are common living objects of Mediterranean Civilizations. In a sense, the study which deals with the ships of Egyptian, Greek and Phoenician Civilizations is an interpretation of past cultures with today's point of view. With thiscontext, contemporary ex-libris are intended to be revealed by transforming the ship visual samples in hand into unique forms with various printing techniques.
