Abstract

The dating violence harms the psychological, physical and educational development of young people. Also because individuals are likely to act similarly in their future relations, it should be emphasized due to the fact that it is the precursor of adult violence, young people should be informed about the subject and their awareness should be increased. The aim of this study is to determine the attitudes of university students towards dating violence. This study is survey research and the random sampling method was used to determine the participants of the study. The study was carried out with the participation of 319 students in Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University School of Physical Education and Sports in the 2017-2018 academic year. The data for this study was collected by administering the questionnaire called "Attitudes towards Dating Violence "which was developed by Price, Byers and Dating Violence Research Team (1999) and adapted to Turkish by Yumuşak and Sahin (2014). According to the findings of the study, for certain types of violence, the level of acceptance of dating violence by males and ones who face or exercise violence in their relationship is higher. Also, individuals who witnessed violence in the family and who were subjected to violence at home or school are more likely to be subjected to or use violence in their relationships.
