Abstract

Literature builds a bridge that reaches from yersterday to today, and from today to tomorrow by conveying a nation’s cultural values to readers/audiences. By maintaining its life and development since the existence of the utterance, it provides a broad source for other art branches and inspires artists because its material is language. Especially since Classical Turkish literature continues its existence for six centuries, it constitutes an important circle in our literary history. In contemporary Turkish literature, poets such as Yahya Kemal, Behçet Necatigil, Hilmi Yavuz, Sezai Karakoç are like a bridge updating the traditons and transferring it to modern-day people. Music is another type that is as effective as literature in updating the tradition. Mazhar Alanson, one of the members of the MFÖ group, is one of the artists who benefits from the motives and elements of literature in the production and the performance of his art. It is seen that he considerably reveals his sources of thought and inspiration in this frame in his book titled Mazhar Olmak. In this study, the role that Mazhar Alanson undertakes in the updating of the tradition, which he has used to improve his art, will be scrutinized by focusing on how he used the motifs borrowed from Turkish literature and how he adapted them to the requirements of the period.
