Abstract

Cultural heritage values linking past, present and future are at risk of extinction by exposure to many risk factors. Natural hazards such as erosion, earthquake, flood; the risks of resettlement and public works, managerial problems and similar human risks threaten Integrity and sustanable preservation of cultural heritage. Preserving the values that face these risks, keeping them alive and transferring them to the future is of great importance. The castle and its surroundings in the Niğde province, which maintains its local identity and which have cultural heritage values, occupy an important place in the collective memory of the local people. The study examines the human-induced risks of the Niğde Fortress and its historical settlement tissue in the Niğde urban archaeological site, and provides recommendations for the conservation-use balance. The scope of the study, human-based risks that cultural heritage is exposed to on the basis of literature review and data from the Conservation Development Plan are indicated on the maps. It has been emphasized that the human-based risks identified in the study area threaten the values of cultural heritage and this negatively affects the protection of the region.
