Abstract

Nationalism is a concept that has begun to be taken with the French Revolution and has never lost the importance it has had since it was taken. Nationalism is sometimes an integrative phenomenon that can lead to the destruction of states and the change of maps, and sometimes to a common state of living in a state, but with common aims and ideals that lead different communities to act together in solidarity. Although the philosopher who wants to contribute to the literature of nationalism has a common theoretical point in the explanations of nationalism, a general definition cannot be made because of the diversity of the situations nationalism takes in practices. The aim of this study is that nationalism consists essentially of different species within itself and that each species can be characterized in a different way over the form it takes in practices. While this study draws a general framework on the concept of nationalism, it gives detailed information about the formation of nationalism and examples of nationalism from the world, and ends with the conclusion section that reveals the transformation experienced by the concept.
