Abstract

Child abuse is an action or inaction that damages emotional, physical, social and psychological development of children. Child victims of sexual abuse have suffered due to the communication problems in the coordination between the institutions in the legal processes and due to the interrogations held by non-experts. Therefore, Children’s Advocacy Centers have emerged as a new service model both in Turkey and in the world. This study focuses on the concepts of child abuse and neglect, social work in the child abuse and neglect, as well as the purposes and functions of Children's Advocacy Centers. In addition, the Children's Advocacy Centers in the USA are analyzed; the roles and responsibilities of the social worker working in these Centers as forensic interviewers are determined. The social work interventions needed to be put into action in the fight against child abuse and puts forward a professional perspective for the practitioners in the field.
