Abstract

A number of non-Christian Muslims of Turkish origin who could not get what they had expected from the 1905 bourgeois-democratic revolution — taking place in Tsarism Russia — fled abroad because they would not accept pursuing a life under the pressure of reaction that had sought the traces of Pan-Turkism. Intellectual thinkers who did not leave their fatherland set to manifest themselves in the field of printing, in different epochs of literature and art. In these conditions, Derdmend, also known as Därdemänd, who reflected the spirit of existentialism that was somewhat alien to the Tatar Muslim neighborhood, was a phenomenon with his poetry in which he revealed some shaken and exhausted, unhappy and unsettled existence of living spaces and ideals of people living on the planet, in the world. In this article, Derdmend’s motives of shaken despair, alienation from this world, and loneliness from his poems are reviewed.
