Abstract

In this research qualitative and quantitative data are collected to understand the attitudes of students who are registered at 9th grade in Batman province towards leisure time activities and how they spend their free/leisure time. Total 409 students 216 of which were male and 193 female have participated voluntarily to the research. The results of the research have showed that there were no difference in students’ attitudes towards leisure time activities in cognitive, affective and behavioral sub-dimensions in terms of their gender, educational level of mothers, the place their family lives and whether they work or not. There was statistically significant difference between students of general academic high schools and sports high schools in affective sub-dimension. There were no statistically significant difference between students of vocational high schools and students of all other types of high schools. While there were no statistically significant difference between students who have actively involved in sportive activities and not involved ones in cognitive sub-dimension, there were significant difference in affective and behavioral sub-dimensions. It can be concluded from the results of the research that the attitudes of 9th grade students towards leisure time activities show statistically significant difference in terms of sub-dimension variables.
