Abstract

The science of psychology plays an important part in the analysis of literary texts and especially in the interpretation of state of mind of the characters of the texts. The importance of the emphasis on the depth of personality and analysing the person in all aspects and processes can be understood after placing psychoanalysis into a conceptual framework. C.G Jung, one of the prominent names in psychoanalysis, makes it easy to understand the layers and depth of the character by turning the concept of archetype into a systematic study. The life style of the person, their character, thoughts, behavioral patterns and their conflicts can be construed with the help of the concept of “archetype”. This study aims to display the narrator's inconsistent state of mind and their process of self- realization and vice versa with the help of archetypal analysis in the novel Kabuk Adam by Aslı Erdoğan. In the texts, the predicament of the characters who try to keep up with the social approval despite their recognition of self and their potentials is clearly displayed. This state of the characters in the text and their conflicts might be interpreted by studying their level of conscious and subconsciousness. Such effort of interpretation requires archetypal analysis.
