Abstract

In this qualitative study, was aimed to determine the opinions of high school teachers about the Teacher Strategy Document, General Competencies of Teacher Profession prepared for determining the principles of teacher training, selection and development processes by the Ministry of National Education and practices based on these policy documents. The research was carried out during the professional studies of the teachers in June 2018 and September 2018. The study group consists of two school principals and eight teachers who work in two different schools affiliated to the General Directorate of Secondary Education. Teachers and school principals expressed their views on policy documents, their applications based on these documents, and the changes in the National Education in the process of data collection. Data collected through the interview form was analyzed by descriptive analysis. Findings are grouped under the following themes: (1) continuous professional development, (2) performance evaluation, career development and rewarding, (3) teacher training and teacher employment, (4) candidate teaching process and (5) the status of the teacher profession.
