A REVIEW OF INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIVENESS AS A STRATEGY FOR EXIT FROM THE MIDDLE INCOME TRAP ORTA GELİR TUZAĞINDAN ÇIKIŞ STRATEJİSİ OLARAK ULUSLARARASI REKABETGÜCÜ ÜZERİNE BİR İNCELEME
It has been observed that the countries that have got rid of middle income trap and switch to high income group have medium-high technology intensive production structure, they have completed their institutionalization, they increased their R & D investments and exported high value-added goods. According to the World Bank, among the 101 middle-income countries in the 1960s, the countries that were able to get rid of the middle income trap and reached high income level were Greece, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Ireland, Portugal, Mauritius and Israel. The purpose of the study in the context of international competitiveness by comparing the current situation in Turkey with these countries is to map out a way to get rid of Turkey's middle-income trap. As a method of research, international competitiveness indices determined according to the World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Competitiveness Report were used. When The Global Competitiveness Report is examined, although there were improvements in the recent period as economic performance components, compared with the median income out of the trap managed to countries, especially the effectiveness of the labor market, education, scientific infrastructure and innovation component terms are understood to remain below the average in Turkey.
