Abstract

Political parties are considered indispensable and essential elements in modern democratic systems. Political parties of such importance for democracy today have some basic and common functions, although they perform quite different functions. Undoubtedly, political parties need a organization to fulfill their functions, and these organizations form the basis of political parties. This is the basic element in the structure of the organization; members of political parties. Like in other countries as Turkey also it has been elaborated by the political parties and political party membership concept legislator and has been identified in a fairly comprehensive framework of legal character of plotting issues with both the constitution other relevant law. In this study; the concept of political party membership in general terms, the legal character of political party membership, and the constitutional and legal regulations on the academic personnel' political party membership of will be examined and findings about the current situation and finally criticism and suggestions will be presented.
