Abstract

Handicraft products are known to have developed with the emerging needs of the humanity. All these values which have survived today, constitute the material and cultural assets of a society. Among these, jewelry has not displayed any change depending on the climatic conditions, like dressing. It is understood from the findings of excavations that, this form of art has not emerged as an essential need of a society, but rather, it has gained functionality as a decorative component. Besides being a decorative component, jewelry has been worn by people due to religious reasons or as amulets. Such that, jewelry was sometimes used to indicate power and strength and sometimes it served as a presentation to the gods with the dead. Fibulae, which bring the past to the present with a great mystery, have a special importance. This form of jewelry, which is known as the hooked needle today, is a decorative component that is used to pin the clothes. Fibulae are known to be among the essential types of jewelry in Ancient Times, and to have become fashionable in Anatolia especially during the period of the Phrygians.
