Abstract

This research was carried out in order to convey the education of interior architecture in art and design education and especially the history of education in Turkey. It is seen that vocational education is undertaken by ahi community in Turkey before interior architecture education. Vocational education is carried out in this structure, where both training apprentices and ethics education are given together. In 1882, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi) was established in the field of art. In 1929, interior decoration studio was opened within the Department of Tezyinat (Ornament). In addition, the Department of Interior Architecture was opened at Marmara University (Devlet Tatbiki Güzel Sanatlar Okulu) which has started to education in 1957. It is contemporaneously regarded as the first education program of interior architecture profession. With the establishment of the Higher Education Council in 1982, many academies and schools established in the field of art and design started to became universities. As a result of this study, the formation and the development of interior architecture profession which is popular professions in Turkey is transferred. It is aimed to contribute to the literature and to convey the history of education in Turkey.
