Abstract

Sadık Hidayet and Feyyaz Kayacan are important figures in the field of literature within different geographies they lived in. Sadık Hidayet (1902-1951), who is considered as the greatest writer of today's Iran, was accepted as the founder of European sense of storytelling in Iranian literature. Feyyaz Kayacan (1919 – 1993), on the other hand, is one of the most competent names of storytelling of the ‘50s generation in Turkey. Many of the sensitivities and themes that Sadık Hidayet and Feyyaz Kayacan deal with in their works overlap with each other. Besides pessimistic affections, the weight of existence, depression and death are the main subjects of both authors’ works. The aim of this study is to compare the subject, content, language and style by taking into account the social conditions of the periods in which Sadık Hidayet's novel "Blind Owl" (Kör Baykuş) and Feyyaz Kayacan's long story called "A Yusuf in Hell" (Cehennemde Bir Yusuf) were written and to reveal the similarities and differences between these works. In this study, primarily the lives and literary personalities of Sadık Hidayet and Feyyaz Kayacan were mentioned; then the comparison of the two works was conducted. Thereby, it has been pointed out that writers, who lived in different periods in different geographies, may have the same way of thinking and expression.
