Abstract

15 ornamental graves and gravestones which have survived throughout history in the burial area of Erzincan Terzibaba Tomb are included in the study. All these graves are in the form of cist. Of these graves, 8 belong to males and 7 belong to females. The number of head and foot stones that we have studied in our study is 28. Of these, 15 head stones and 13 foot stones have been examined. The earliest example of gravestones with a certain date belongs to 1791-92 on the other hand the latest belongs to the date of 1961. 4 graves are made of marble material and the other 11 graves are made of local stones extracted from the regions around Erzincan province. Measures of the head stones and foot stones are between 179-50 cm in height, 39-19 cm in width and 10-6 cm in thickness. There are floral, objective and geometric types of decoration elements for ornamental purposes. Among floral portraits, mostly acorns, roses, date palms, daisy, and mimosa, grape, curved branches, leaves and flower bouquets from vases are sometimes ornamented together with geometric composition. Vase, the star and crescent, Solomon's seal, ribbon are depicted in object ornament while, diamonds, beam bar, sliced medallion, saw-tooth motifs are depicted in the geometric ornaments.
