Abstract

Turkey is an earthquake-prone country. Earthquakes have caused loss of life and property recently. In addition to these casualties, people who suffered the impacts of the disaster both psychologically and physically are in need of support especially shelters in order to return to daily life. Shelters are not only housings but also crucial living areas that make them feel safe and relieved. In this study, the design process of prefabricated houses, reducing of manufacturing costs and time, minimizing housing zone, mobilization of prefabs, solutions to infrastructure problems, meeting energy needs with minimum resources, socio-cultural impacts, psychological problems of the victims, and safety issues are addressed and examined. For this purpose, the design of a prefabricated disaster housing in collapsible hexagonal form is come up with. Moreover, the suitability of this model and how it can be improved are determined.
