Abstract

Teaching critical reading skills for secondary school students in abstract thinking is important for students to encounter a wide variety of sources of information in the later parts of their lives. It is even more important to be able to look critically at these sources of information and to be able to benefit from them. In this study, it is aimed to be able to present examples of activities which are thought to provide the development of critical reading skills in the light of the fact that critical thinking teaching is important in Turkish education. 36 events were planned so that they could be used during the 36 weeks education term for different grades of secondary school. It has been benefited from scientific publications, books, published questions of international exams such as PISA and PIRLS, relevant web pages, Turkish lessons and workbooks, Turkish language teaching programs for the preparation of the activities. Activities were planned taking into consideration the acquisitions of Turkish language curriculum 5, 6, 7 and 8 grades reading skills. The activities were evaluated by the field expert of the Department of Turkish Education and the doctorate degree students of the Department of Turkish Education who were working at different secondary schools at the same time. As a result of these evaluations, the activities are given the final form.
