Abstract

The personality of a scientist is quite important in shaping his scholarly work. It is the interests of the burgeoning natural-scientist which determine his first directional approach, to begin with. One is attracted to study topics which are personally appealing, after all. This trend becomes more conspicuous in specialized training. Fields of area for which a keen innate propensity calls for, do get scrutinized. On the other hand, obviously, the particular character comes into play more strongly in the case of the social-scientist; tastes and inclinations gaining in importance. Some like quantitative work, while some others stick to qualitative studies, for instance. Russian-origined French sociologist Gurvitch constitutes a demonstrative example for the latter category. In an overall general perspective; various categories emerge, depending on sheer temperament: Some people of science are restless and not at peace with themselves. Some are hard to get along with, whereby collective studies may be negatively influenced. Some are arrogant. Some are touchy people whose feelings get hurt easily. The identity of the teacher, as an early emissary of scientific thought in schools, also affects the displayed role model tremendously. As French psychologist Wallon notes; Ostwald simplifies the classification roughly into two broad categories, which he calls the classics and the romantics. The former work slowly and critically by following an artificial construction in their minds. As for the latter; despite their ties with the necessities of the research engaged; reacting-responses, rich ideas and imagination add much more to their progress and achievement.
