Abstract

The political history in South Africa, where minority was in power and the majority of which had no right to speak, began to change in 1994 when it entered into the post-racist process. The gloomy days were over but always alive in the memory of people from every segment of South African society. Undoubtedly this occupied the memory of the artists at the most and they examined social events of the period as a necessity in their works. William Kentridge, a South African artist, is among many South African artists who have witnessed and closely observed this social change. In this work, we have analyzed the art of William Kentridge, who testified some events in the apartheid era, and accordingly, the charcoal technique used for the soul of events by going beyond conventional techniques and nine handmade films in the series titled “Drawing for Projection” exibited with stratified and black humor concept.
