Abstract

Many English language instructors and scholars have conducted several studies to reveal the role of movies in language learning. The results of these studies demonstrate that movies in EFL classrooms have a significant role. The type of the movies used in classrooms is an important issue. Animated movies have been popular recently not only among children but also among all ages. They are used to attract the attention of students and make them acquire the target language in a fun way. Sometimes these movies are watched with English or Turkish subtitle or without any subtitles. What the most effective method is the question among instructors. Hence, the aim of this study is to determine the differences between these methods. Three groups in the same level watch the animated movie “Ratatouille” using these three methods. Afterwards, students are asked to answer certain questions about the movie to evaluate the differences between the groups.
