Abstract

The spread of Islam in the Kazakh steppe have historically been described in various ways . However, no one can deny the impact of the religious epics on this subject as a result of their needs and demands. As religious and ethical values among the Kazakhs are sprouting, it shows that religious epics are very effective since the time Islam became a part of Kazakh culture. Life stories full of sacrifices and heroisms of Prophet Muḥammad ibn Abdullāh (s.a.s) and his followers such as Hasan, Hussein and other members of the Ahlal-Bayt (the House of Prophet) were the subjects of many epics. One of the main character of such epics is Muhammad Bin Hanefiyya. Muhammad bin al-Hanafiyya and his descendants` names are commonly found in the Kazakh epics. The processing, subject and motif features of the Hanafiyya are discussed in the following article.
