Abstract

By the industrialization period that started after the Industrial Revolution has led to the establishment of leather industry in Yalvaç. Leather manufacturing culture which was known as “debbağlık” was based on the Hellenistic period and functionally active with small-sized enterprises till the Republican Period. Yalvaç Leather Factory in 1925 by the private enterprise of the archaeologist Şefik Feyzi and his wife, Arapzade Celal, Alibeyzade Şevki and Hüseyin Hüsnü Bey; so leather trade became an industrial branch. This article has focused on Yalvaç Leather Factory and its significance in Republican Period industrial heritage context, leatherworking value in the district, and the history and architectural features of the construction respectively. As a result of the research obtained from written and visual sources, the physical and historical development and difference of the factory are examined. In the fourth part, Mimar A.Ş. restoration project proposal was emphasized concerning the Isparta industrial heritage and conservation issues. Conservation issues appears because of standing as an idle structure which has such architectural, historical and urban value were mentioned and solutions were proposed in the conclusion. Its original-new function was discussed; refunctioning affair was evaluated.
