Abstract

Today there is an almost negative perceptual size of objects considered as souvenirs in society culture. However, these objects are quite important in terms of a country's presentation ( reputation ) and economic benefit ( income ). It is necessary to fix this negatice perception again by means of another point of view and to convey it into a new comprehension. The most important part of a country's tourism income is obtained from touristic objects known as souvenirs, in other words from handcrafts. These objects play an effective role in a country's presentation, but because of not taking enough care, presentation causes insufficient and wrong information. Especially in the situations where the economic income of local products is well enough, the products lose their value because other areas interfere with them. For example, the touristic objects produced as windmills have been made to refer to the windmills in Bodrum, but today they are being sold in almost every part of Turkey and seem as if they belonged to those regions. In this way, the perception is being corrupted and the local culture is being damaged by the product's degeneration. Because the degenerate souvenirs in touristic products have been produced by using daily themes unconsciously without education, we often meet such situations. To prevent this, we should not leave especially our handcrafts into the hands of people producing them unconsciously just for financial benefits and into the local culture, lack of supervision. It is necessary for us to do more scientific study related to the subject, and for this, universities should do elaborate academical research and study. Particularly the Fine arts students should be taught to interpret the culture they have gained in their society, to have a producer identity as well as being an artist, and to gain the interpretation ability for the culture as an object.
