Abstract

Turkish writer and poet, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar (1901-1962), mentions the local and foreign literary figures and poets who had an impact on him and his writing process in his work of “Antalyalı Genç Kıza Mektup” (The Letter to the Girl from Antalya). Among the literary figures Tanpinar mentioned, no Russian author is named. However, Russians, Russian culture, Russian literature and Russian writers have a significant place in his scientific and literary works. All known works of Tanpinar were searched and examined for discourse and statements related to Russian, through synchronic and diachronic reading methods. The data gathered were analyzed by comparisons in order to provide the semantic “cosmos” of Russians in the thoughts of Tanpinar. As a result of the study, it is revealed that, in the works of Tanpinar, Russians are discussed in four upper planes of a. historical perspective, b. ideological positioning, c. art-culture-literature and d. social life. The sub-semantic implications of the determined four platforms constitute the originality of this study.
