Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate descriptive characteristics of unidimensional real data sets and comparison of α and ω reliability coefficients in case of congeneric data sets. In the study four different data sets were used. In the first phase, descriptive characteristics of data sets were examined and determined whether they are congeneric or not. After, α and ω reliability coefficients were calculated and compared. α coefficient were calculated in two ways: variance based (α1) and factor loadings based (α2). The results of the study indicated that all data sets used in the study were congeneric. When reliability coefficients were compared, for all data sets it is indicated that the highest reliability value was factor loading based α2 coefficient following ω and variance based α1 coefficient in order. However, the difference between ω and α1 coefficients was not significant in practice.
