Abstract

In Rhodes, the first press activities began in the period of Abidin Paşa who was governor between 1893 and 1914. In 1908 the first Turkish newspaper was published but couldn’t be long lasting. After the island was dominated by Italy in 1912, although Greek and Italian newspapers were published, there was no Turkish newspaper. To meet this need, Rhodes Islamic community began to publish in Turkish language with arabic letters Selam newspaper with the permission taken in 1926. The newspaper continued its broadcast life and gave important clues about the relations of Islamic community with Italians, their point of view of Turkey and casual life. In this study, the publication policy of the newspaper, writers and the topics that were discussed will be analysed and the presentation of the newspaper will be done.
