Abstract

It has been observed that migration has significantly increased in all liberalized economies especially after 1980. It is clear that public expenditures increase in migration-receiving economies while migration has become an essential dynamic that creates added value in these economies. On the other hand, besides the economic gains and the benefits it provides to the economy, there are some negative effects on the environment. One of the issues that the researchers have not reached consensus recently is the relationship between international migration and environmental pollution. This study aims to reveal the relationship between environmental pollution and international migration econometrically taking stand from the analysis of time series. According to the findings of the study, the presence of a long-term relationship between environmental pollution and net migration is revealed by means of Johansen Cointegration test. The Granger causality test results in one-way causality from net international migration to environmental pollution.
