Abstract

Tombstones are quite essential as they constitute the primary resource for various science disciplines. By publishing issues on the tombstones, the profound evaluations of the tombstones and introduction to the scientific world have been realized, and also the concern on historic tombstones has increased recently. Unfortunately, despite these positive developments, tombstones have been among the most devastated cultural assets in urban development process and a number of tombstones have been either ruined or terminated. Janissary tombstones, encountered rarely in our country, has a unique position among Ottoman tombstones with emblems and heading forms on them. In Janissaries, there were different emblems as a symbol of each company and squad. These emblems were implemented on the gates, on the tents, on the flags, on the certificate of union and on the tombstones of companies and squads. The emblem of fish for the 25th company has been detected on the mentioned tomb. In this context, after visiting the burial ground of Central Mosque in Çağlar Village in Kastamonu, the photos of the tombstone have been shot, the measures and engravings were taken. By evaluating the inscription text and emblems on the tombstone, it has been revealed that the tombstone belongs to 25th company banner bearer Hacı Ali Ağa in janissary squad.
