Abstract

The last novel of the world-renowned author Cengiz Aytmatov entitled "Dağlar Devrildiğinde-Ebedi Nişanlı" basically narrates the tragedy of the modern human living under increasingly violent conditions of the market economy. The concepts such as capitalism, symbolized with Ertaş Kurçolov, and commodification, alienation, and cultural erosion as the natural outcomes of capitalism are the main themes of the novel. The personified animal characters seen in Aytmatov's other novels also take place in this last novel. Caabars (ok parsı) and the protagonist Arsen Samançin are the two characters who could not adapt to the changing Kyrgyz society. The underlying reason behind the change in the private lives of both characters is the destruction of cultural elements because of capitalism and its supporters. The fact that these characters, at the end of the novel, die together in Molataş Cave, the symbol of cultural memory, does not represent their annihilation, but the immortalization of the Turkish culture. The monetary conditions that form the basis of all the elements of the novel also bring about personal and sociological conflicts. Managing to achieve from i
