Geography deals with the city within the context of human-city correlation. From a geographical point of view, cities differ from other settlements for their functions. Culture is one of the functional aspects of cities. Although cultural functions vary, the most important cultural element is education. Cities are settlements which offer many educational services. From this point of view, it can be said that people living in cities are at a more advanced level of education compared to those living in other settlements. Universities, which offer educational service at the highest level make sense with cities. Çankırı Karatekin University, one of the new universities of Turkey, is an institution of higher education preferred by students from varied districts and cities of Turkey. In the study, students studying at the faculties of Çankırı Karatekin University have been elected as the target group. The target group, the research universe, has been given questionnaire, and the reasons why they preferred Çankırı Karatekin University as well as their perception of Çankırı have been tried to be detected. The survey data have been analyzed through SPSS, and findings have been assessed and synthesized. The findings show that students preferred Çankırı Karatekin University in accordance with their placement scores to a great degree. In addition, Çankırı’s closeness to their own cities is among the reasons why they prefer the city and the university. It has been observed that Çankırı Karatekin University, which draws students mostly from Middle Anatolia and especially from Ankara, is under the influence of other metropolis as well. This indicates that the population size and the closeness of the university to one’s city are significant elements in university preferences.},author={Barış TAŞ-- Okan TÜRKAN - Merve ÇOLAK},year={2017},journal={The Journal of Academic Social Science}}
