Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to develop a scale that measures the attitudes of students toward violin lessons who have taken violin lesson in music teacher education institutions. The study was conducted with 528 undergraduates from 18 universities stated in Turkey. To test construct validity of the scale exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) have been calculated. Explorotory factor analysis results indicate that scale has a two- factor structure which explains %52 of the total variences. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) indicates that the two-factor structure of the scale was confirmed. (X2/sd: 2.72, NNFI: 0.95, CFI: 0.96, GFI:0.86, AGFI: 0.82, RMSEA: 0.08 Standardized RMR: 0.06). Cronbach Alpha coefficient for factor 1, factor 2 and the whole scale were calcuated as .90, .78 and .89, respectively. Items discrimiation results indicate that the upper %27 of the participants have higher mean range scores for each item on the scale and on the two factors, and this difference is significant at the 0.01 level. These results show that the scale can measure the attitudes of students who have taken violin lessons in music teacher education institutions in a reliable and valid way.
