Abstract

Stone, one of the traditional materials of sculpture art, is the most permanent and robust material in the nature. It also allows for large-scale work, homogeneous structure, permanence, etc. have been used by sculptors for centuries. Until the 19th century, sculptors used the stone to transform it into a statu- resally sculpted person or subject. In general their achievements have been determined by detailing and best copying of nature. For the first time in the sculptures of Rodin in the 19th century, the texture and form of the stone was made consciously foreground. Artists such as Constantine Brancusi, Henry Moore, Richard Long, Joseph Beuys, Ulrich Ruckriem, Isamu Naguchi, and Tony Cragg made sculptures in a very different way and approach and used them for their different characteristics. In this context, the works of the artists who bet on the research are given examples and their approaches to stone materials are examined.
